Upcoming PA Questions

I asked Hassna to go over the solutions to the following questions from the THIRD edition of Sadiku: 4.32, 4.33, 4.34, 4.35, 4.39, and 4.41. She will cover them plus a few from the FIFTH edition. I am waiting for her to confirm which ones --- when confirmed, I will edit this post and add them here.

  1. Someone had mentioned in class that the 3rd edition was online. Is that for free or is it an e-book?

  2. My understanding is that someone committed copyright infringement by scanning it and putting it on-line for free.

I haven't heard back from Hassna yet....otherwise I would have confirmed the questions.

I say just show up to the session. Next time I will choose the questions solely from the 5th edition, or if not, create my own questions that I can post.

If anyone wants to see the questions though, I'll be in my office from around noon onwards and you are welcome to drop by and see my 100% legally obtained copy of the 3rd edition of Sadiku's book.

  3. Wonders of the underworld. Its a scanned version of the text - illegal. Schaum's Outline (2nd ed) is also available illegally and that's the ebook. Note: what I'm doing (dissemination of information) isn't illegal, but you downloading it is. For the record: I wasn't the one who mentioned it in class either.

  4. Good thing this is not a law class.

    From Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_infringement
    -------------------
Countries where sharing files without profit is legal
Downloading copied music is legal in some countries in the context of the copyright, such as Canada,[16] The Netherlands,[17] Spain,[18] and Panama, provided that the songs are not sold. In Canada it is legal to download any copyrighted file as long as it is for noncommercial use, but it is illegal to unauthorized [SIC] distribute the copyrighted files like uploading them to a P2P network. [19]
    ----------------------

So I disagree that downloading the file is illegal (in Canada). If anyone can point me to contrary case law I am interested.

Just so everyone is aware, there are a lot of improvements in the more recent versions of the Sadiku book. Otherwise I would not have recommended it.

  5. I own the fifth edition(all 100 and some loonies worth). I just wanted a 3rd edition to get some practice questions from. Practice makes perfect!

By the way, from what I know about file sharing in Canada (which isn't much), you are correct. It's only illegal if sold for profit.

    Thanks for the help.
